Expanding Climate Action in Atlanta Through Filmmaking and Creative Workforce Training

Touch Grass is a new Atlanta-based narrative micro-series, produced in partnership between After the Fact Impact (ATF) and Documentaries Don’t Work, our narrative-first climate media studio. The series follows Cali, a young Black woman whose life unravels after a chaotic layoff—and the unexpected community, chaos, and purpose she finds along the way. Climate isn’t the story; it’s the setting, woven into the real pressures shaping work, identity, and daily life in Atlanta.

We are proud that the writer of Touch Grass was discovered through the inaugural Carbon Copy Pitch Competition, an initiative we launched to surface new voices using narrative to shift climate culture. Her pitch stood out for its sharp character work, comedic tone, and ability to address climate-adjacent themes through relatable storytelling rather than didactic messaging.

To deepen the impact of this series, ATF is launching two aligned initiatives:

Our $10,000 Campaign

To bring these initiatives to life, ATF is raising $10,000:

  • $5,000 to fully fund the +Media +Impact Hub

  • $5,000 to fully fund one cycle of the ATF Media Lab

All contributions are tax-deductible and directly support impact strategy, creator training, and community-centered storytelling in Atlanta.

Production Timeline

We are currently in pre-production, with writing underway and principal photography scheduled for early 2026 in Atlanta. The Media Lab will run alongside production, providing real-time training and shadowing opportunities as the Touch Grass team films the series.

Together, Touch Grass, the +Impact Hub, and the ATF Media Lab reflect a new model for climate storytelling that centers character, comedy, community, and career pathways, while building measurable impact beyond the screen.

The ATF Media Lab

A hands-on creative workforce training program that places emerging Atlanta creators directly inside the production of Touch Grass. Participants receive on-set experience, mentorship, equipment access, and technical workshops covering directing, producing, sound, camera, and editing. The Media Lab lowers barriers to entry for underrepresented storytellers and strengthens Atlanta’s vibrant film ecosystem.

The +Impact Hub

Through a partnership with Plus Media, we are building a customized +Impact Hub to accompany the series. This interactive platform will provide curated resources, audience actions, and measurable analytics that help translate engagement with Touch Grass into real-world climate and community impact. This 6-month digital hub serves as the infrastructure for tracking how narrative content inspires awareness, conversation, and behavioral shifts.
